On May 11th, H.E. Ambassador Ren Hongyan visited Cocoa Research Center(CRC) and exchanged in-depth views with Prof. Pathmanatham Umaharan, Director of CRC, on cocoa industrial development in Trinidad and Tobago. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Zhang Zhihong, Counsellor of the Embassy.

Ambassador Ren stated that as an important pillar industry of Trinidad and Tobago's agriculture, cocoa gains renown worldwide for its excellent quality and unique flavor. For years, China has accumulated rich experience in the research and production of cocoa products. The Chinese side is willing to deepen exchanges with Trinidad and Tobago in areas such as cocoa planting, processing and brand management, enhancing the popularity of cocoa products in China, as well as promoting the continuous improvement and upgrading of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Prof. Umaharan introduced the scale of the cocoa industry, the development bottlenecks, the future production expansion strategy, and showcased the cocoa cultivation situation and processing procedures. He also expressed his expectation of cooperation with the Chinese side in the fields of research, training, and investment to promote the development of the cocoa industry in Trinidad and Tobago.
