On 28 May 2026, Her Excellency Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell, after he was sworn in for a new term.

Ambassador Yan handed over a congratulatory message from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Ambassador Yan stated that political mutual trust between China and Bahamas continues to deepen, and exchanges and cooperation in various fields are progressing smoothly. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Bahamian new government, jointly uphold true multilateralism, address global challenges such as climate change, and promote further achievements in China-Bahama relations.

Foreign Minister Mitchell expressed his appreciation for the congratulatory message. He emphasized that the Bahamian side values its friendly relationship with China and will continue to firmly uphold the one-China principle. The Bahamas is willing to further strengthen friendly exchanges and cooperation across various fields to promote the continued development of bilateral relations bring greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.
