On the occasion of International Children’s Day on June 1, H.E. Ambassador Ren Hongyan visited the Lady Hochoy Home, a charitable institution in Trinidad and Tobago, and extended festive greetings to the children with special needs at the Home.

Ambassador Ren listened to a briefing by the management on the operation of the Home. He noted that the Lady Hochoy Home was founded by Lady Thelma Hochoy, wife of Sir Solomon Hochoy, the first Governor-General of Trinidad and Tobago after independence and a person of Chinese descent. As one of the earliest institutions in the region dedicated to the care of children with intellectual disabilities, the Home stands as a testament to the important contributions made by the Chinese community to the social development of Trinidad and Tobago.

Ambassador Ren said that in recent years, the Chinese Embassy and the Lady Hochoy Home have maintained close exchanges and cooperation, bringing care and warmth to local children with special needs and vividly reflecting the profound friendship between China and Trinidad and Tobago across mountains and seas. The Embassy stands ready to continue supporting the development and operation of the Home and to work together to write a new chapter of people-to-people friendship between the two countries.

The management of the Home thanked China for its long-standing support and said that they would cherish the friendship, serve with dedication, preserve this important historical legacy of the Chinese community in Trinidad and Tobago, and tell more stories of friendship between Trinidad and Tobago and China.

Ambassador Ren also donated children’s food and daily necessities to the Home.
